The Hospice Patient’s Right to Oral Care: Making Time for the Mouth

Providing proper oral care at end-of-life may be difficult due to patient compliance, a sense of futility in doing so, time constraints, and underfunding and/or a lack of education. This article published in the Journal of Palliative Care illustrates the physiological and psychosocial reasons why hospice patients need proper and regularly implemented oral care and why dental professionals have an ethical responsibility to address the current void that exists in hospice-centered oral care.
