Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a preventable and manageable disease however has increasing prevalence worldwide. Management is focused on preventing disease progression, improving quality of life, and reducing exacerbations. In this retrospective analysis of patients hospitalized for acute COPD exacerbation, investigators evaluated the association of COPD stage on patient’s adherence to inhaled therapy and found that the risk of exacerbation was 10-fold higher in GOLD spirometry class IV compared to GOLD spirometry class I.
