Anticipatory Guidance in Dementia Across the Stages

The Palliative Care Network of Wisconsin (PCNOW) provides peer-reviewed, evidence-based summaries of key palliative care topics (“Fast Facts”). There are approximately 55 million people worldwide affected by dementia, with this number expected to double in the next 20 years. To best care for these persons living with dementia (PLWDs) and their care partners, anticipatory guidance (AG) is needed to identify the current stage of dementia, forecast care issues, and prevent/manage complications and symptoms. This Fast Fact reviews the trajectory of dementia, the prognosis, and AG needs at each stage.
