Caregiver Burnout is Real, But Not Inevitable

Caregivers of elderly relatives often report high levels of stress associated with caregiving, however, according to a recent survey, more than nine in 10 respondents described their caregiving experience as worthwhile since most caregivers know their loved one the best and truly care.  Caregivers juggle the needs of an older adult along with their family and career responsibilities which may result in a decline in self-focus and self-care and progress to depression. Mercy LIFE chief medical officer Donna Raziano provides insight into caregiver depression and provides guidance on how to recognize it early and manage it.
