Lizzy Miles, hospice social worker in Columbus, Ohio and regular contributor to articles on Pallimed.org, writes about the perception of time and how it affects our patients. She recommends being mindful of how we use our time and also how we show respect for their time. We can reach these goals by setting expectations, coordinating with all team members to address patient/caregiver crises in a timely manner, acknowledging that patient needs may sometimes exceed the time you can allot during encounters and by showing that we value the patient’s limited time.
