In the current environment of parenteral opioid shortages, an anesthetic agent, ketamine, is gaining renewed attention for analgesia. Although analgesia dosing is lower than those used for anesthesia, clinicians may still hesitate utilizing ketamine due to concerns about side effects. This Pain Management Nursing review article provides an overview of ketamine administration for analgesia and describes potential side effects associated with its use.
