Pain Management at the End-of-Life

The appropriate management of pain for those with advanced illness remains a great concern as it may go unrecognized or untreated. However, barriers persist regarding appropriate and adequate pain management at the end of life. This joint position statement from the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (APSM) and Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) contains recommendations for nurses, prescribers, and institutions to improve pain management for this vulnerable population.
