Palliative Care Needs of Young Adults with Life-Limiting Conditions

Due to improvements in pediatric care and technology, more young adults with life-limiting illness are surviving into adulthood. Medscape Nurses summarizes a J Palliat Med study describing the unique palliative care needs of this population. The data were derived from an online focus group of 10 young adults aged 19-29 years who had limited expectations of surviving past age 30. The study captured insightful themes about how these young people dealt with living with uncertainty, and how some achieved their goals, whereas others “got stuck”.
