In a retrospective study of adults with sedentary lifestyles this recent study sought to determine if there is an association between sedentary behavior and risk of all-cause dementia in older adults. Researchers collected data from 49,841 adults in the UK Biobank and found that among older adults, more time spent in sedentary behaviors was associated with higher risk of incident all-cause dementia. Investigators used machine-based learning to determine sedentary time based on readings from the accelerometers. Sleep was not included as sedentary behavior.
