The 2019 NHPCO Leadership and Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C., was full of education and valuable connection for the hospice and palliative care community. With over 1,400 leaders in attendance, the conference provided an optimal forum for catching up with old colleagues, expanding networks and facilitating discussions on the latest in hospice legislation and regulations impacting the community. There was a lot to learn and see during our days in the nation’s capital and Enclara Pharmacia took full advantage of all the conference had to offer and more. If you were not able to attend this year’s conference, here is a quick recap of some of our favorite moments.
Successful Scavenger Hunt to Booth 321
We were excited to welcome many of our colleagues to our new booth to participate in the exhibit hall scavenger hunt! Those who participated, visited a variety of different conference locations, including our partner Intalere to receive official stamps on their scavenger hunt map. Those who successfully completed the journey on the card were entered into a drawing for an iPad from NHPCO! Congrats to the winners! We hope you love your prize. We were so thrilled to be able to sponsor such a fun and interactive activity.
Informative Education Sessions
Our colleagues from Turn-Key Health – Terri Maxwell, APRN, Ph.D., Chief Clinical Officer and Joe Buchanan, RN, CHPN, Senior Vice President, Account and Clinical Management, facilitated an excellent educational session, Coaching for Clinical Excellence and Improved Patient EOL Decision-Making. The goal of the session was to help maximize team performance through clinical coaching involving collaborative planning and problem-solving. Interactive discussions of this session also centered around:
- How coaching can contribute to engagement for individual and team performance
- The factors that affect end-of-life decision-making and clinical coaching techniques
- Development of a plan to be used when coaching within your own organization
Thanks to the many attendees for making this session a must-see at the conference.

A Night at the Zoo
Without question, our favorite part of this year’s conference was hosting A Night at the Zoo! Members of the Hospice and Palliative Care Community joined us at The Elephant Trails Exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. It was great to have so many join us for a night filled with exceptional food, fun music and awesome conversation. Not to mention, the elephants themselves had a great time keeping us all entertained by posing for pictures and interacting with the guests. Special thank you to the elephant keeper from the Friends of the National Zoo who answered questions and shared special facts showcasing the remarkable characteristics of these elephants. Enclara has such a special connection to the elephant and we were honored to share the story of the elephant and celebrate such a majestic animal.
