Enclara Pharmacia Expands Direct, Same-Day Medication Access With 43 Local Pharmacy Affiliates

PHILADELPHIA – August 26, 2020 – Enclara Pharmacia, the nation’s leading hospice pharmacy services provider, announces the addition of 43 local pharmacy sites in key markets. They will serve as a direct extension of Enclara’s mail order capabilities, delivering a more seamless experience for hospice nurses and their patients.

“Our new local pharmacy locations will offer our hospice clients the best of both worlds by combining the benefits of our next-day national mail order dispensing with the convenience of same-day local access,” Chief Commercial Officer Scott Quilty said. “They provide opportunities to integrate our technology and logistics expertise to close the ‘last mile’ gap between local pharmacies and patient homes, setting the stage for Enclara’s forthcoming innovations in medication access.”

The pharmacies are part of a new initiative, Neighborhood ConnectionsTM Plus, which builds on Enclara’s Neighborhood Connections program, an actively managed group of over 7,000 local pharmacies (among the larger 65,000+ network) which meet the unique needs of hospices and reduce barriers to medication access. To be included in the Neighborhood Connections network, these pharmacies must stock medications that are commonly used in hospice but are otherwise rarely prescribed outside of hospitals. They must also demonstrate awareness of dispensing regulations specific to terminally ill patients. The Neighborhood Connections team works with Enclara’s hospice clients to build their own custom preferred pharmacy networks based on hours, proximity and other factors and negotiates ancillary services such as after-hours access. They also monitor utilization and advocate for the hospice if service issues arise. Neighborhood Connections Plus pharmacies will provide additional local options for hospices and greater opportunities for coordination with Enclara.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the risks associated with having nurses and caregivers pick up medication from local pharmacies. Local pharmacies with limited hospice clientele may also have difficulty stocking an adequate supply of the formulations most appropriate for hospice patients, such as liquid opiates. Neighborhood Connections Plus pharmacies will support coordination of routed courier delivery and integration with Enclara technology to meet the emergent medication needs of critical patients in a timely manner. Network access to these pharmacies will roll out in the fourth quarter of 2020. Markets served include the Miami, Jacksonville, San Antonio, Las Vegas and Kansas City metro areas as well as parts of South Carolina, and North Carolina. The Neighborhood Connections Plus model will also be implemented at Enclara’s New York City area pharmacy.
