Session: Inhaler Discontinuation Acceptance Using Inspiratory Flow Measuring Devices
Presented by: Clinical Manager, Anthony Berard, PharmD, MBA co-presenting with Director of Pharmacy Services, Jeff Lynds, RPh (HPCCR)
Day/time: Concurrent sessions will be On-Demand Sessions, 20 sessions released each week

Session Information

Pulmonary disease treatment should be patient specific. Although inhaler devices are convenient, many patients lack the physical skill or cognitive ability to use them correctly. Successful use of inhalers requires adequate inspiratory effort and breath control. Absence of either skill means medication does not reach the lungs, leading to poorly managed symptoms. This session reviews proper inhaler technique and describes how the pilot use of an inspiratory flow measurement device led to improved patient symptoms.

Upon completing this session, participants will be able to:

    • Describe the role of an inspiratory flow measurement device in determining inhaler use capability
    • Explain the implications of inspiratory flow measurement for improving patient quality of life
