Bidirectional Medication Profiles
Keep Electronic Health Records Up to DateEnclara Pharmacia has led the way in the development of truly bidirectional medication interfaces for seamless interoperability with electronic medical record (EMR) systems. While only a few agency management systems currently support this feature, our integrations team collaborates closely with EMR partners to expand its availability.
Traditionally, EMR-pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) interfaces are one-way, with new medications profiled in the EMR first. These flow to Enclara for dispensing via our E3 Pro™ medication management platform. While it’s ideal for all medications to be entered in one place, some medications may be profiled with Enclara first, usually when dealing with emergent needs in which time is of the essence.
Advantages of Bidirectional Integration in Hospice Care
With a bidirectional medication interface, it doesn’t matter where the medication is profiled first. Both systems will synchronize ensuring that all patient records accurately reflect all profiled medications. For hospices utilizing Enclara’s national direct-to-patient dispensing model, bidirectional capability provides additional value when medications are profiled during real-time consultations with an Enclara pharmacist. This type of integration also simplifies regulatory compliance under Medicare’s Hospice Change Request (CR) 8358 requirements and Part D audits by ensuring that all medications profiled with Enclara are included in the EMR.
